Audio clipping on DJI Mic? The ultimate solution (Mic 1 & Mic 2)
"I filmed for an hour last night... But the audio is kind of distorted 😅"
This is the situation feared by all content creators. You've just finished an hour of filming, the image is perfect, but when you start reviewing the footage: disaster. The sound is crackling and distorted.
The harsh reality? If you didn't anticipate this problem during filming, your audio may already be saturated and therefore completely irrecoverable.
But don't worry, if you're filming with the DJI ecosystem, there are settings to ensure you never have to experience that again. Here are the techniques we use every day at the agency.
DJI Mic 1: Life Insurance (Ms Mode)
If you are using the first generation of the DJI Mic, the solution lies in a mode that is often overlooked by beginners.
Forget the classic stereo mode and switch immediately to Ms mode. This setting is your only guarantee in the field.
How does it work?
This mode automatically records a backup audio track alongside your main track.
This backup track is recorded at a lower volume.
This way, if you saturate the main track with laughter or loud noises, you always have a clean (lower) version to fall back on during editing.
DJI Mic 2: The Ultimate Cheat Code (32-Bit Float)
With the DJI Mic 2, technology goes even further. It incorporates what is known in production as a real "cheat code."
In your receiver settings, enable 32-bit recording (or 32-bit float).
Why is it revolutionary?
Once this mode is activated, it becomes literally impossible to saturate your sound.
Whether you whisper or shout into the microphone, your audio track will always be "clean" and the dynamics can be recovered 100% in post-production without any loss of quality.
The Aask Media standard
This isn't just theory; it's the equipment and settings we use every day at the agency to ensure the quality of our clients' productions. In professional production, audio quality is never left to chance.
